When I start a project, I am dedicated to making every detail count. My latest idea is to revamp my front sitting room. We moved in a year ago, and though I had already decorated it, I have never been 100% happy with it, and have been working on ideas for a little makeover. This is what it looks like currently (well, before I moved some of the furniture around):
Kinda BLAH, no? It's actually a pretty large room. There is a bunch of space behind where I was standing when I took the photo, and a wall that looks like this (mind you, there is a cabinet on it now, and some photos):
This is what I would LIKE it to look like:
I am obsessed with doing these digital mockups for every room I decorate. My whole house has been based off of these designs, and if you haven't tried it yourself, I highly recommend it!! You do need some Photoshop experience though!
Anyways, my overall idea is to eliminate the purple accents, bring in more white to lighten it up a bit, change out the curtains with some cuter ones (I actually ordered those exact tie up curtains), and fill the space. It is a large room and I want it to feel cozy, not empty, with lots of pillows and things.
The main issue I'm having is with that lovely ottoman. Living in Canada, they don't ship it here. There are virtually NO online CANADIAN furniture stores. It is really sad and actually makes me quite angry when shopping for housewares. Buying furniture from other countries is pretty much a no-go because the customs/duties they slap you with are absolutely insane for furniture. *sigh* I cannot find one similar anywhere and it's making me mad!
I am debating getting this Ikea love seat (I know, IKEA how original!) because they seem to be the only place that has WHITE sofas reasonably priced... but the measurements of it seem a tad big for a love seat... ah I don't know! Too boxy??
I'm thinking I will try out those amazing thrift stores for some side tables this weekend. Hopefully I can come up with SOMETHING!!!!!
What do you think of the "new" look? Should I go through with it all?

Wow! It looks amazing before and after! We currently rent and the decor can only be described as NAFF!!! Dark, Dark wood panelling, artex and interior brickwork, sounds delightful lol. Your room is beautiful! Sue
ReplyDeleteI think you should definitely go for it. The "before" pictures make your room look a little.. cold. I don't know. It's not cozy, like you say you want it.
ReplyDeleteI love that you're switching out purple and putting more white :D
Love what your doing, so interesting!
