Halloween Throwback...
In case you're wondering, yes there is a snowsuit underneath my costume. That's how we roll in Canada. I always remember Halloween being so freezing cold, and how annoying it would be to have to find a suitable warm costume. I loved it though. Halloween seems so different now. I'm not sure if it's just me, but doesn't it seem like kids just aren't enjoying it as much as we used to?
I can remember trick-or-treating being such a huge deal... something that you prepared for and mapped out the best streets to hit for the best candy. We would stay out for hours, filling our pillowcases to the rim with goodies, until our feet were just too sore to continue.
Sometimes, we even had parents drive us around to different neighborhoods. The next day at school was always so much fun... bragging about how much candy you scored and having your mom pop a few little chocolate bars into your lunch every day following Halloween.
Over the years, I haven't seen this kind of enthusiasm from today's kids. Back in my day, the streets were packed with children running all over the place. Now, we're lucky to get more than twenty trick-or-treaters, and they all seem to stop at about 7:30pm.
Where is the spirit!? I can't wait until I have kids and am able to take them out. Darn right we'll hit every single house, and stay out until their little toes are frozen!
Am I the only one who has noticed this, or is it common nowadays for trick-or-treating to be less fun?
Either way, I wish you all the best and most fun Halloween yet!
(Oh, and you may have noticed I have a brand new blog design! Hope you like it!)

Stunning design! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in South Africa, so no Halloween for me. My kids are gonna have no choice but to have the best times of their lives trick or treating because I will be secretly re-living my childhood (American Style!) through them!
First things first, I love the new design!!! But the way my mother explains it to me is. People are insane now adays, I wouldn't trust anyone with candy as far as I could throw them...With all the little kids getting kidnapped, and disappearing every night, We can go to the store, have you walk endlessly up and down the aisles, in your costume, buy candy that we know is safe and watch a scary movie in the comfort of our own home. But I agree, Halloween/trick r treating was way more fun when I was younger.
