self portrait saturday

Alright you guys, I've decided to start taking more self portraits.  I think it's a fabulous way to learn some photo skills, become comfortable with your camera, and even more comfortable with your body.  Self aware self portraits is what I'll think of them as!  I'll title this little project series Self Portrait Saturdays and I hope you'll join me, won't you? :)

I grabbed my cute little polka dot ruffle romper and got straight to it. Here is my very first contribution:

I like the positioning in this one above... even though my leg in the back kind of looks like an arm if I stare at it too long. I used a tripod and my 50mm lens.

I popped on my old wide angle lens for this one. I had no idea that lens would even fit my camera, but it did. The only issue was that it would focus in the viewfinder but not when the photo was taken. It gave the photos this foggy glow even after messing with all my settings... which, looking at the shots now, I kind of like.

Things I learned:
  • My 50mm is by far my favourite lens. But I already kinda knew that.
  • Sketchy wide angle lens makes dreamy/foggy photos
  • Looking up at the camera causes wrinkles in my forehead. Try to look up with whole head rather than eyes.
  • I have a new appreciation for my legs

If you feel like taking part in my self-awareness self portrait series, grab your camera and get started! Don't be shy! You don't have to be a pro and everyone is welcome!  Then grab a button and link up your own self portrait post below! I'll go through them all and pick my favs for next week :) Don't forget to share what you learned!!
