some things you don't know about me
∙ I get really scared when it gets super windy outside. Sometimes I think about building an underground shelter. Tornados are my all-time worst fear.
∙ I walk into walls... like, a LOT. If I'm turning a corner in our house, you can bet I'll whack my shoulder or hip into it. It doesn't even phase me or hurt when I do it anymore. I think it's a serious problem haha.
∙ I am so bad at remembering people's names when I am introduced. I can remember faces, features, and all of that photographic memory stuff but not the important info. I also have had one client for years and I still don't know his name. He never signs it in emails and I've never asked. I feel like it's a little late now to be like "Oh by the way, what is your name?"
∙ I wish I lived a more exciting life. I hold myself back too often and I'm afraid that one day I'll look back and see that time has just passed me by, without having done adventurous things.
∙ I chew my lip when I'm in deep thought
∙ I'm pretty handy with tools and can usually figure out how to fix something
∙ I get a little bummed out when I see everyone's engagement photos, parties, and other love-dedicated celebrations because we never did any of that. I wish I had some cool engagement photos or a celebration but I feel like after being engaged for almost 3 years now, it's too late.
∙ I rarely drink alcohol. After living a life watching what it can do to somebody who used to be a decent person, I just have no interest in it and don't really understand the attraction.
∙ I am not religious. I wasn't raised in a religious family... nobody connected to me seemed to even care about religion, so it's just not what I know. I totally respect others choices though to believe what they like, but at the same time I think some people can take it too far... like when it comes to not accepting others for their own beliefs or how they choose to live their lives in return. Basically when religion creates hate and false ideals I get really put off. I really think that if people had the same amount of faith in themselves as they do in God, they could accomplish anything. :) Some people need something to believe in, some people don't and it is as simple as that.
∙ I burp a lot. Dustin always laughs at me because I burp inwards. Instead of letting the air out, I burp it back in, and then let it out, like a hiccup almost! I'm weird... and must sound so lady-like.
∙ I don't rely on anyone for financial support. I buy all of my own things, pay all of my own bills, bought my own condo and this house myself. (Who said you need a man!? haha) I have no debt. I'm pretty good at managing money I suppose!

Okay, I totally do that walking-into-walls thing, too. And I bruise really easily, so people are always asking me "who beat you up?" lol

I love this post! I've hit my right hip and thigh on all the possible corners here in the office and it still hurts every time! Haha! Girrrl, you sounds really awesome in managing your finances! Wish I was the same!
ReplyDeletexo,

you should totally get your engagement photos done. it's silly not to, because you'll regret it forever!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to feeling left out when it comes to all of the engagement/love celebration stuff, my partner and I have decided to forgo legal marriage because it doesn't make sense for our financial situations... but I'd be lying if I said I'm kinda bummed that there will be none of the traditional ceremonial stuff.
ReplyDeleteHi Dana! Ohh I LOVED reading these little bits about you! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I may have to do one of these posts and link it back to you! And I just want to thank you so much for popping in and for your sweet words on our day of art journaling. We woke up to a handful of emails about Aaron's pages..including your sweet comment. :)
Love from the NJ Shore.
xo Jenny
ps ..never too late for anything!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI also walk into walls constantly! Kinda happy to hear that other people do it to!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said about religion! I'm the same way, have never been religious but kinda think that everyone should believe in themselves a bit more.
The money stuff? You rock.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely get engagement photos done still!!
ReplyDeleteI can only sleep IF I am holding my hair and both my hands are covered... aha!

You should do the photos and all that I really and sad that I did not have anything as well. Everything went so fast for my husband and I but we have been married for almost 7 years now.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed this post - I totally get the alcohol thing, I usually have a glass of wine or two while my friends knock them back and hate when people ask 'why aren't you drinking?' as though it isn't possible to have fun without drinking your body weight in alcohol
ReplyDeleteugh. :P I know exactly how you feel about wind. I'm absolutely terrified of tornados. They're *scary*
ReplyDeleteI can't ever remember names! lol. I'm the worst about that. :/
awh! It's not too late at all to do Engagement photos. ^_^ I think you should. <3
This was an adorable post....:)
xx
I can relate to so much of this, but mostly I want to say...
ReplyDeleteYou should DEFINITELY have engagement pictures or any nice shots done for yourself and your fiance. I never had professional pictures done, not even for our wedding because I always wanted to do my own photo work. I had friends and family take our pictures and then I did the editing/printing myself. It was fun, but I also didn't get to appreciate the pics like some people do theirs. Doing the work took the fun out of it. Finally, several months ago I made up an excuse to have professional pics made just before we moved from our old house. We have no children -- other than our dog -- and had no reason for pictures, so my excuse was to do "moving away photos." To this day they are my all-time favorites, partly because we had them done at our old home and partly because they are the only professional pictures we have. It was a GREAT decision and I'll never regret it.
ANY reason to turn memories into art is very cool. It's never too late or too early.
DeleteThis post makes me like you even more than I already do.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the way you see religion. Also, I'm always running into stuff - BUT it really hurts me each time haha
Please do the engagement pics. I bet you'd come up with great ones!
loved learning more about you. you are absolutely adorable! and i totally chew my lip when i am in deep thought too!

Great post :) I agree 100% on your comments on religion. I'm not religious at all, but can appreciate others faith as long as they don't put down others because of it. It is kind of nice to see a blogger throw it out there that they are NOT religious, I appreciate it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd good for you for being 100% financially independent. That is really awesome!
I never got engagement photos... but my co-blogger Hayley just did and I am a bit jealous! ~Stephanie
I'm sure people have wondered, so I thought i might as well clear it up haha.
Deletexo
same goes to me. Is really hard to remember people's name. Know I know your personal habit. haha...have a great week ahead!
ReplyDelete3lin
I'm the same way about tornadoes! I'm a weather freak, always plugged into my weather apps on my phone, freaking the moment they put us under a tornado warning. "HIDE EVERYONE!"
ReplyDeleteAnd I suck at names too! I can remember faces easily, but names? Pfft, forget it.
Pretty awesome that you're finically independent, not many people get to say that!
Also, this post was amazing, in case you couldn't already tell.
You and I have the name thing in common. I am terrible with names...it's so embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I learned so much about you. We are a lot alike. Your clumsy, I'm clumsy. I fall up stairs, not down. :/ I am not religious either. It's something I've never opened up to on my blog because I'm afraid of a bad reaction, ya know? I guess I'm just a pansy like that. :/ Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with all of the above comments- It's NEVER too late for anything. Go get engagement photos done. You'll never regret it! :) And then share them with us, because we'd love to see them! :)
One more plug for going out and getting engagement pictures. Seriously. DO IT. Do it now!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about the alcohol thing. There just is no attraction there at all for me.
Oh I love this!! We have alot in common! :)
ReplyDeletegreat post! congrats on the last part about being totally financially independent! awesome!!
ReplyDeletei chew my lip when i'm nervous
it's never too late for engagement photos! you should still do it! maybe include some pics from start to now showing the progress to the present?!
cheers!
Do an anniversary photo session! I am starting to offer this to my clients and they're loving the idea! I am the same way with tornadoes - terrified of them whilst being curious too x
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you are all suggesting we do the engagement photos now! I actually told Dustin earlier that I wanted to do them and we made plans to do them on our anniversary, which is like, next week haha. FOUR YEARS! Hopefully we can pull it off!!!!!!!!!! I'm kind of excited though!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a guys middle name, but I've embraced it.
ReplyDeletei say go for it on engagement photos...love has no timeline, friend. it's a forever deal. i think you will be thin forever, since you seem to have that body type, but won't it be cute to see what you looked like in the beginning of your relationship, since 3-4 years is a short time compared to maybe 60 or so? plus you are beautiful and i love your style...so engagement pics would be super cute for all of us to see.
ReplyDeleterespect you on the faith thing. i am a woman of faith but never use that as a crutch or reason to judge. not the way i groove at all.
xoxo
Oh my, I wanted to write that the wall thing happens to me all the time, too, but as I read further, I felt like you are my twin or something, because 80% of the stuff you wrote happens to me, too.
ReplyDeleteI think that admitting you are afraid once you will look back and see that you could embrace many more opportunities, is the first step towards changing it. I'm working on this one, too. :)
Coming from Ireland we dont have tornados BUT I totally love those shows were people storm chase and I'd love to go on one of those trips because its so different from anything we experience over here, which is mostly rain!
ReplyDeleteI also think that if you want engagement then you should get engagement photos! With your artistic flair, they would be amazing and despite the fact that you've been engaged three years, I still would not let that stop you! They would be awesome to have and to look back on!
I also agree with you with regards to religious beliefs - Despite being raised Catholic it was more a case of, "Well thats the schools that are available" - From a young age I never believed in god and still wonder how and why people can even think there is a "man in the sky" and as for the immaculate conception...dont get me started!
Thanks for sharing! x
Thanks for sharing Dana! I also walk into stuff all the time - this weekend I walked into a door & had a massive bump on my head and a major headache, clumsy!
ReplyDeleteI also stopped drinking alcohol. At first my friends thought it was odd but now they have just accepted it. I don't miss it at all.
By the way my name is Claire. But I wont be mad if you don't remember ;-)
I'm totally with you on the bumping into the wall thing. Every time I walk around the hallways at my high school, I'll run into a door frame, bump my shoulder into the wall, etc. And not even just when I'm turning the corner. Sighhhhh.
ReplyDeleteAnd you should ABSOLUTELY have your engagement pictures done! It's never too late, and you will be so happy you have them down the road.
I love these sorts of posts because they are more personal! More of these please!! :D
ReplyDeleteLoads of love
Chloe
go take those engagement photos! :)
ReplyDeleteHigh-five on being a boss business lady and knowing how to manage your money. I feel like it's one of those topics we're not supposed to talk about, but I too am stoked to have my shit together and be able to buy everything myself.
ReplyDeleteSarah // SillyGrrl.com
I wish I was this organized with money. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely caught myself chewing my lip as I was reading...Thanks for sharing about yourself!
ReplyDeleteI recently stumbled across your blog and I LOVE it! I love the layout to the content and everything in between! Your sense of style is just impeccable and your blog is simply the epitome of perfection! I am your newest, most avid follower, I look forward to reading your future posts. I would love it if you could perhaps follow me back too? Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteLove from, MISSIFFA
I strongly agree with you on the religion topic. That is exactly how I feel about religions.
ReplyDeleteLove this post :) There's a lot that peope don't know about me :) xxx
ReplyDeletehttp://jeminixlife.blogspot.com
I walk into walls all the time too... and I have trouble walking through door-ways without catching some body part on the door jam. Usually (and embarrassingly) its my boobs that catch. :P hahaha!
ReplyDeleteWow that is amazing! I really wish I was out of debt! I am not as good with managing money I suppose though! But I am taking the leap and started my own Society6 Photography shop and am hoping to earn a little extra income on the side. I know it will take some time to start making money with it but you have to start somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI have photographic memory too. I remember peoples' faces, but am embarrassed that cannot recall their names! horrible feeling!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I thought Brian and I were the only ones who didn't have an engagment party or anything like that! So glad I'm not alone. I sometimes feel the same way though, and even get a little bit jealous. Don't worry though, when you're close to your actual wedding I'm sure you'll have a bridal shower or something... I hope I do too.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's awesome that you aren't in debt and are able to afford all that yourself! Maybe you could do a post on how you budget your money (or how people should...). Just an idea - I know I'd be interested in reading something like that!
