Happy birthday little Bear!
This dog is like a child to me. For six whole years he's been sitting right beside me every single day, all day long. I got him when he was a tiny puppy from another family who had purchased him from a breeder then decided that he was too much work! They had a two year old daughter who treated him like a little stuffed animal. They had only had him for 2 weeks. He wasn't a shelter pup, but I still feel like in a way I rescued him from that household. Why families continue to buy pets when they can't take care of them properly is beyond me and makes me so angry. As soon as I saw him I knew I had to snatch him up. He was just a little longer than a nail file and was only supposed to grow to be 7 lbs. I was handed his paperwork and birth certificate and the little girl cried as I carried him away, sad that I was taking her 'toy' from her. Now here we are, 20 lbs (7 lbs my ass!), 6 years, and lots of puppy kisses later! I'm so glad we found each other.
There's nothing quite like puppy love.. Happy Birthday little guy!!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!! I recently lost my 8year old Beagle called alfie which was devastating but glad i had that time with him. The bond you get with dogs is amazing isnt it!x

I guess at least the family was smart enough to know to get rid of him? Lets just say I'm glad my sister didn't get tired of her kids as fast as she wants a dog, then doesn't want it anymore. ;-) :-/
ReplyDeleteaw i've been wanting a little dog for such a long time but with both us of working full time it seems like abuse to leave a dog penned up in a house all day! someday though... someday... he's so precious!

ReplyDeleteI'm envious of you. I lost my dog of 10 years about a year ago. I was in bed with a migraine the other day, and I dreamt that she had jumped on the bed and was lying next to me to make me feel better. Migraine or not I woke up in a fit of tears.
My boyfriend and I want to get a couple of huskies when we get our own place, and he started looking at a few local husky breeders and got me ridiculously excited. I'd forgotten we have no room for them yet! Silly me.

DeleteAdorable! We just got a baby pup a few weeks ago and I know all about the work! Not sure I'll survive potty training or if it'll ever happen...sigh. Good thing our little yorkie is adorable and i feel too bad to take him away from the kids!
ReplyDeleteoh baby puppies are the worst haha. i seriously didn't know what i got myself into when i brought him home. i wasn't expecting to be up all night as if i just had a baby, but that's exactly how it was. waking up at 2am, 4am, and 7 am just to take him out to pee. i don't know how i did it haha.

ReplyDeleteYour doggie is super cute!! I live in Cyprus and you would be shocked at how many stray dogs roam the streets because people just decide they dont want them anymore. It makes me so angry. So I took one in because I just couldnt watch her go to the shelter where no one would love her enough.

ReplyDeletewe had a boston terrier, marley, before the kids came along. once wilder was about 1 year old, i decided having 1 doggie (with lots of health issues and expenses) and 1 child was too much for us financially. so we gave him back to the rescue organization that we got him from. it was like cutting off a right arm or leg. the most gut-wrenching thing we have ever had to do. but we know that giving him back gave HIM the opportunity to go to a home that could devote the time to him that he deserved. he lives with a single guy in CO now. it has a happy ending, even though i still cry about marles.
