self portrait saturday is back!

Hey ladies! It's been a whole 2 months, but I finally had enough time to put together another Self Portrait Saturday for you! If you're new here, this series used to happen pretty often around this joint.  I started it help girls become more comfortable with their cameras... both in front of it and from behind it. At the bottom of this post, there is a linkup. All you need to do is snap your own self portraits, create a blog post, and link it up below!  It's a great way to network and show your support for the others participating... and also discover some awesome new blogs! Note: I am opening this up to instagram submissions too!

This weekend, I wanted to try some "in front of a window" shots. You can try this yourself too if you need a bit of a theme to get you started.  I always have trouble getting the settings right for nice glowy photos when there is so much back light, so I wanted to play with my camera a little. Here is what I came through with:

top: c/o sheinside

I used manual settings on my Canon Rebel with a 50mm lens. I set my aperture to f/1.8 (pretty much what I take all my photos with because I love a blurry background!), ISO 200, and 1/640 exposure time. I also used my "shade" white balance setting to get a yellowy tint. Honestly they looked a bit too dark when I transferred them over to my computer so I brightened them up in Photoshop. I definitely still have some work to do with learning about back lighting, but overall I like these photos and the glow behind my hair!

  1. Wow - this is a great idea. I'm terrible at sharing self portraits on my blog but would love to join in. It's a good excuse to get my proper camera out instead of my usual iphone snaps!

  9. SUch a beautiful idea. I really am no good with posing in front of a camera (and I own a fashion blog hahaha) but you make it look so effortless. I love the idea of a link up as well and, if I wasn't so busy, I would contribute.
