I have big plans for this extra space of ours. I want to mix textures and give it a bit of a rustic feel, while staying classy and chic. I'm also pretty sure that I will want to live down there when we're done. Unfortunately, right now it just looks like this:
We've been framing whenever we get the chance, which is basically whenever Dustin has a day off and we feel like doing it. Thanks to YouTube and other reading material, we managed to get this part of it complete. I've been pulling inspiration for colours, floors, walls, and more in hopes of the outcome being something like these wonderful spaces:
My basic wants:
Painted concrete floors
A wood pallet feature wall
Painted white ceilings
Sliding door
A claw foot tub
Doing it all affordably
I'm sure I'll add to this list as we go along. Have you ever tackled a complete basement reno?

I can't wait to see the outcome of this! Looks like it is going to be amazing from the features that you want.

Hot damn! You've done a lot of work! I've never tackled a basement reno myself, but my fiance's parents are in the middle of theirs, and just, wow. It's a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the final product! Especially with all that lovely inspiration. xx
I love claw foot tubs! They're so elegant, I hope I can have one in my future house :) I'm definitely not a DIY kind of person though!

We've almost finished our entire house. My husband used to be a cabinet maker though so he has that skill. I remember one might pulling staples from the floor at 3am because we were getting a sander for the floor the next day and thinking 'what the hell are we doing!?" It looks fantastic now though. ;)

I love the sofa I spotted in the first picture! i also like the sliding door :)
ReplyDeleteWe just completed all the finishing touches on our basement -- baseboards and casings -- and now it's time to decorate! Have fun with your renovation :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dana,
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job with the framing in and the insulation, my hubby is a drywaller, framer, boarder etc and i showed him youre picture of what youve achieve so far, he said great job! isnt the internet amazing. We did a complete renovation of a listed building when we lived in the UK and had an original claw foot tub, it was so wonderful to lounge in after a long day. I personally like the concrete floors when they have been polished and sealed rather than painted, less scruff and scratch marks, you have a great style and i loved the photos you shared. Good luck with the rest of the reno vations, were in the middle of our suite renovation too and will eventually move down there. Having the right tools and some skills is half the battle.

Dana,
ReplyDeleteI've never done my own renovation, but I went to school for interior design and I currently work at a store as their designer selling products for interior renovations! You mentioned wanted 'painted concrete floors'....you're definitely going to want to stain those concrete floors as appose to painting them. It will much MUCH easier to maintain. You also can think about keeping the raw color and just sealing it in some way...that will look even MORE rustic! :)

All of them pictures look amazing! :) xxx
