Me + You(Tube)

HAPPY MONDAY! I hope you had an awesome weekend. Mine wasn't so awesome. I pretty much did absolutely nothing due to the fact that I wasn't feeling so great. Yesterday included being a couch sloth and watching The Tourist followed by Grease. I watched GREASE you guys. The entire way through. Something was definitely not right!

I woke up today to find out that Canada has officially put our penny into retirement. That's right, we will no longer use pennies and within about 4 years they will be gone. Kind of strange, but it's supposed to save us something like $11 million a year. From now on when we pay with cash the cents will just be rounded to the nearest 5 cents. I don't know how I feel about this considering nickels are probably the coin I always have the least of, and it will be kind of strange not being able to give exact change and feel like you're helping the cashier out, haha.  There's some Canadian news to start your Monday off right.

On Friday evening I decided to create a Wonder Forest YouTube channel! I wanted a place where I could share how-to vids for questions that I get asked... Mostly techy/blog/design related but I will probably throw in some other things like makeup tutorials (maybe??).   I started off with two really simple ones that people emailed me about recently... How to Install a Font in Windows 7, and How to Add a Facebook "Like" Box to your Website or Blog.

If you want to learn some things that you might not have known how to do, why not subscribe to my new channel?

If you have any questions you want me to answer, please leave them in a comment below or email me and I will try to get a video made up for you! I always struggle with ideas for things like this because I don't really know what might be difficult for others to figure out since I've been a techy nerd for so long! Together we can make this a great resource for information... but I need your help!

xo Dana

  1. One thing I could never figure out is how to have a specific page for a certain 'tag' in my blog. For instance.. if i do a featured party in my blog, i'd like to do a link in my header where you can click on it and have all of my featured parties there. I've seen people do this with tutorials, recipes, etc.

  2. Well, it's a good thing I still have some Canadian pennies. When I'm seventy and wrinkled, I'll be able to tell my grandchildren that "Back in my day, Canada used to use pennies for money. You could take 'em to the store and ye could..." You know, being crazy old me. Rocking away in my chair. :)

They don't have pennies in Australia. They also have tax already incorporated, which is nice. So the price of an item is precisely what it costs. I like that method.

    1. Haha, I know I want to save some! I'd love to have tax already incorporated! That is a great idea. Do you round to the nearest 5 cents too then?

  5. Hi there! I am from Quebec so I found this strange too -the pennie case-. In fact, when I went to Australia, I was mesmerized about the fact that they didnt used penny. But I imagine that in one year we will get use to it!

  6. I think the weirdest thing is that Euros have 2 cent pieces. I think those are useless! Anyway, lots of people are going to complain, but sometime you'll loose, sometimes you'll gain. At one point we'll be fine with it! Now I'm going to subscrie to your YT channel!

  11. I used a Canada penny last week to pay for something. I didn't realize that I had it until I set it on the counter. Totally didn't say anything...just wondered if the clerk would notice. Nope. Maybe they'll all migrate down to the states...

  12. Oooh, looking forward to your YouTube channel! I subscribed and am going to head over there after this and see what's up :] I saw that Canadian news on Instagram this morning. That is crazy! I don't know how comfortable I'd be with it either, but it is interesting that it will save the Canadian economy so much money! Wow!

  13. I am American so I still have the penny and no tax included. I usually round to the nearest dollar for my "tax" when shopping. But it's cool that I have some Canadian pennies before they go out of style.

I can't wait to follow you on youtube. I would love for you to do a how install the GFC anywhere without the header..

  17. I love that you're worried about not having enough nickles. I'm thinking they will become as abundant as the pennies in your pocket...although you probably won't find as many nickles laying around in the streets as you do pennies. Can't wait to see what you come up with to share on your YouTube channel.

  19. Um, so, hi. I'm Canadian (or so I say. Apparently) and your blog post here is the first news that I've heard of the abolition of our beloved penny. In addition to having taste for neither hockey, nor Timmy's coffee, nor the cold, it appears that I also do a terrible job at following the goings on in my country of origin.
Granted, I do live about as far away from Canada as a person can get, but still. I mean. Geeze.

  20. I'm living in Canada right now, and it's going to feel so weird removing the penny. I work at a retail store, so giving out change without pennies is going to be weird!
I just watched your video about creating a custom header and it looks much easier than I thought, but first I'll have to create something pretty and unique!

  24. Oh wow! They keep threatening to lose the penny here in the US, but so far we still have it. I think I would feel like something was missing without it!

I just subscribed to your YouTube channel. I can't wait to start watching! I am such a sucker for design tutorials.
