Summertime always gives me a huge burst of motivation to get fit. It’s always around this time when I look in the mirror and think to myself “giirlll, you gotta tone up!” I start fitness routines and they last a while… months even… but they don’t always stick. Instead of starting and stopping, I wanted to hold myself accountable somehow, and what better way to do that than to post it on my blog for the world to see!?
So, here is what I’m thinking. Once a week, or once every two weeks, I’ll share what I’ve done to stay in shape and if I met those goals… and I really hope you will join me. This isn’t going to be about hardcore training or beach body boot camp… the root of my goal is simply this: stay active. I want to be active more throughout the day and exercise for at least one hour every day.
Sitting at a desk all day doesn’t leave much room for activity and it’s just not healthy. I do workout pretty much daily, but it’s not enough and my current workouts usually only last 20 mins to half an hour. While this may be awesome for some of you who are just starting out (believe me, 20 minutes was a LOT for me in the beginning too!), I’ve found that I’m just not getting the results I want so I need to push it a bit more. So, my new personal goal is one hour.
I’ve already started working at this goal by adding an afternoon walk to my schedule and trying to double up on my 1/2 hour cardio workouts. Instead of just doing one 30 minute 300 calorie elliptical session in the morning, I’m trying to add one to the evening as well.
I think that, at least for me, when I dive into a more hardcore workout routine like the 30 Day Shred, it works for the time being but when I’m finished the 30 days, it’s not something that I have a desire to want to continue to do every single day. Almost as if I I’m striving for the end of that program and when it comes, all I want to do is NOT workout. As if I already completed that goal, so why start over and keep going? I’m sure some of you know what I mean. With the simple idea to just stay active and exercise for at least an hour a day, it’s more of an attainable lifestyle change that I CAN keep up with, and even add to.
So, I’m asking if you will join me. If you’re not a very active person I think this would be a great way to get yourself moving and have some encouragement behind you. Of course you don’t have to start out with an hour long goal… If 20 minutes is a lot for you then start there and work up to more. If you’re already an active person, it would be a great chance to push it every farther than you do now. How can you improve? Can you add 15-20 minutes onto your current routine or try some other kind of exercise or weights to mix things up?
If you’re in, let me know and tell me what you think you can do to start getting a little more active. Maybe it’s a 15 minute walk on your lunch break or picking up some hand weights before you start your day.
I’ll post some updates as well as my current workout routine along with goals and accomplishments as we go. I’m holding myself accountable this time, because it’s now written on the internet and there is no taking it back. 😉
