8 Ways To Finally Find a Balance in Your Life

8 Ways to Finally Find a Balance in Your Life

Saying that you do a lot is a pretty big understatement. You’ve become an expert at juggling so much so that you start to realize that you’ve been doing it on autopilot.

You start to go through the motions of getting the kids ready for school, managing projects at work, getting home to prepare a meal for your family, putting the kids to bed, preparing for the next day, spending time with your spouse…then you hit the rewind button on your life and do it all over again. That’s no way to live my friend. Eventually, you’ll burn out. We tend to get so caught up in what we have to do that we begin to forget that we’re living beings meant to live a full and balanced life.

Now I know what you’re probably wondering, how can you have that when you have so much to do? True. Your obligations and bills come like clockwork and you cannot just forget them and live in an ashram (well you can but that’s not what this article is about). I’m here to tell you that you can still be the superstar that you are without feeling like you’re being pulled in all directions.

Here are some simple steps you can take to help you regain your balance and start enjoying life:

Wake Up Super Early

Hear me out on this one…I love getting in those few extra z’s as much as the next person, but by making this lifestyle change you become super efficient. Balance is about being efficient while still living in your joy. Waking up early allows you to have more room to do just that. My day typically starts at 7 a.m., I find that when I wake up at 4 a.m. and work for two hours on my laptop I’m able to knock some things off of my to-do list. At 6 a.m. I head back to bed and catch one more z (or power-nap as I like to call it)  before I have to get up at 7 a.m. Give it a shot and find what time works best for you.

Create a Power Plan AKA a Checklist

Seems like a duh suggestion but admit it, with all that you have whirling around in that brain of yours, you tend to just get moving and forget to make one. Writing things down helps put things into perspective and allows you to prioritize what you have to accomplish. I suggest creating one at the start of each month which highlights your overall goals, then you can break it down by how you plan to accomplish those goals in your day-to-day activities.

Spend at least 15-minutes each day to workout. I suggest doing it in the morning before you get ready for work. It fights off that latent anxiety you may have when you wake up thinking about all the things you have to get done for the day. It’s also good for your health and maintaining that hot bod. Plus, to quote a wise woman named Elle Woods, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t kill their husbands. They just don’t.” I think it’s time to put on those gym shorts, don’t you think?

Get Some Sacred Time

Make sure to make some time for yourself each.and.every.day. It may seem hard to first because you’re so used to taking care of everyone else. Even if it’s for 30-minutes for the day, talk to your spouse and let them know it’s their turn to watch the kids. You need your sacred time. I suggest using it to sit in quiet meditation or reading a book. This time is for you to centre yourself and free your mind, so I don’t recommend that you watch your favourite sitcom. You need to re-energize and to this, you need a totally peaceful space where you forget the world and focus on you. The best time to get some sacred time is before you head to bed so that you can start to wind down instead of having to grapple with insomnia.

Start Spring Cleaning

Admit it, even though you do an awesome job of not letting your space look like a war zone it’s not as stellar as you’d like it to be. After all, you have a million and one things to each day so it’s kind of tough to have your home looking like a hotel. I totally get it. But before you think that I’m just adding more chores on your plate, let me put things into perspective; a clean space leaves you with a clean mind. Think about how grumpy you get when things are not in order or when you have excess clutter around the house. It’s time to chuck that stuff out the house and get some feng shui up in there. Don’t overburden yourself by trying to get everything done in one day. Make a plan to tackle each area (and don’t be afraid to ask for some help). By doing this, you’ll find that you’ll start feeling that all is right with the world. I promise.

Make Room To Be Inspired

Take a moment (or as many as you can fit in your day) to be inspired. Watch videos on YouTube, read a chapter in a self-development book, do what you need to do to get motivated. We sometimes get so caught up in the drudgery of life that we forget that it’s a big world out there full of possibilities!

Learn How to Say ‘NO’

Yes, you have to say NO. You cannot do everything. It’s not humanly possible. When you say no to doing a task you know is going to bump you off your equilibrium you’re saying yes to you. Don’t feel guilty. It’s not just doing it in your interpersonal interactions, you sometimes have to say no to yourself. Ask yourself, can you really take on this task right now without feeling bogged down? If you cannot…you know the answer.

Get Your Party On

Go the beach, spend time with your friends, listen to some good tunes on blast, do what you need to do each day to feel joy. Your workplace, your friends, your family, even the people you have yet to meet, deserves the best and happy you. Find your passion and pursue it with all you might because that’s where happiness is and that’s where you’ll find your balance.
