I know I’m not the only one who’s skin doesn’t immediately adapt to new environments and food. After travelling, once glowing skin is now dull and tired from sleepless nights, jet lag and weather changes, and if it’s not…consider yourself lucky! But hey, we’re human, and skin can’t be perfectly highlighted and dewy all the time. With some easy and simple tips, we can combat the angry pimples and tired skin! Here’s how to keep your skin happy and feelin’ fresh while travelling.
Wash your face
This one is probably a no-brainer, but when you are travelling it can sometimes be hard to wash your face regularly! You can be exhausted from flights, too tired at the end of the day, or simply forget. Not washing your face tires your skin out and causes those little evil red bumps on your face.
It’s All What You Eat
It’s true when they say you are what you eat. If you’re constantly eating bad food like deep-fried dishes all the time, then chances are your skin is going to start reflecting your diet. Stick to natural foods full of vitamins and eat some fresh fruit. Berries are an amazing antioxidant and are delicious to add to foods like yogurt or granola.
I will never travel without my face mist. I switch between Mac’s hydrating mist and a white tea mist from Scruples that feels amazing. It’s like walking under a sprinkler on a hot summers day. It’s great for airplanes, hot weather, cold weather, tired skin, keeps your makeup on and just feels refreshing and amazing.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Moisturize every morning and night! If you just wash your face and forget to moisturize after, your skin is going to combat the sudden cleanliness by producing more oil and therefore clogging your pores. Moisturize at least twice a day! Once in the morning and once at night.
Embrace Healthy Fats
Foods rich in good fats help skin cells stay hydrated. I wish I could tell you more about the science behind it all, but foods like avocados, walnuts and olive oil are some good fats that help keep your skin moisturized and smooth.
I don’t think water helps your skins appearance but I know how hard it can be to try and drink water when you’re out exploring a new city. Sometimes, your intake can be cut in half with all the action, and I personally find my skin appears tired looking when I’m dehydrated.
Limit Caffeine and Alcohol
Your mind says “When in Rome,” your body says, “Escape through the skin!” Both caffeine and alcohol dehydrate the skin, so if you are going to be drinking, make sure you take extra care to wash your face, moisturize and stay hydrated!
Use Tea Tree Oil and Coconut Oil
If you have any little annoyances with your skin, plop some of this on and let the minty-freshness do its work. Tea Tree Oil is an old natural remedy for pimples (it’s antiseptic), helps prevent blemishes and helps with redness! An added bonus is that your skin will smell amazing. Just put this combo on before bed and wash it off in the morning and voila! Beautiful skin!
