5 Ways to Treat Yourself This Weekend

5 Ways to Treat Yourself This Weekend

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or find yourself praying for Friday to come sooner every day, it can be hard to find that work-life balance. Once our work days end, all the things we couldn’t get done during that time consumes our days off.

All the cleaning, dusting, laundry, and other house chores is all we can focus on. And before we know it, the day is over.

How can we take back the weekends and make time for ourselves?

That means all the focus on us and what’ll make us feel recharged from a stressful week to prepare us for the next.  I have some great ways I think everyone can benefit from.

Take a (Luxurious) Bath

Nothing soaks away life’s stresses like a warm bath. To make it even better, make it so luxurious you can set aside a couple of hours to relax in comforting bubbles.

If bubbles aren’t your thing (how can they not?) or you just want something different, substitute them for fizzy bath bombs or soothing bath salts. Whichever suits your fancy, use it so you can spend that time soaking away.

If sitting in a bath as is sounds boring, bring your favorite book or your beverage of choice with you.

DIY Spa Day

If a trip to the spa isn’t in the books, why not create one at home? And trust me, it’s not expensive to do so nor does it involve any complicated steps.

All you need is a plush robe and some of your best beauty products. I doubt I’m the only one who hoards expensive products that only get used for special occasions or when my skin is in desperate need of them.

If you can relate, it’s time to break out those bad boys! A DIY spa day should consist of pampering to the fullest. I’m talking facials, exfoliating, warm tea (or coffee), and cute finger foods all while vegged out on the couch or in bed.

Start with either a warm, soothing bath or a steam shower. You’ll open your pores, allowing for your arsenal of skin care products to go below the surface for an ultimate clean.

While you’re pampering your skin, it’s time to tend to your sense as well. Light a scented candle in your favorite fragrance or plug in a diffuser to fill your bathroom with the scents of essential oils. Depending on the fragrances you choose, they can help you feel relaxed and stress-free.

Here’s a list of soothing scents for complete tranquility.

  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Cinnamon
  • Rosemary
  • Peppermint

All of this pampering will lull you to sleep. When you wake up the next morning, your skin  will feel refreshed and your mind-set recharged to take on whatever the day has to throw at you. When you take the time to pamper yourself, the benefits are long-lasting. And it’s not an act of being selfish but one of self-care—something we all should practice.

Order Takeout

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I do not like to cook. Maybe because I’m not good at it but other times it’s the amount of patience needed that I despise the most. Dishes that require long cooking times don’t work for me. I’m hungry and want something delicious on the fly.

That’s why the weekend is the perfect time to order something new or familiar. You worked hard during the week and you deserve to treat yourself in the form of a good meal not cooked by you.

If you follow a strict diet, seek out places that’ll satisfy your hunger. It’s a great opportunity to try new places and see what the local restaurants have to offer.

Give yourself a break from cooking and allow yourself to enjoy a guilty pleasure as well. Whenever my family and I order from our go-to Italian place, we almost always order cannolis! They’re delicious, what can I say?

Allow yourself the opportunity to indulge for a night. Your stomach (and soul) will thank you.

Have a Movie (or TV Show) Binge Night

Why celebrate the weekend by yourself? Host a sleepover or a stay-in girl’s night and invite your besties. Once you have your invite list, create a round-up of your favorite movies and/or TV shows. Nothing pairs better with a good movie or show than a plethora of decadent snacks.

When everyone arrives, make it a rule that no electronic devices are allowed. I know you’re probably giving me major side eye right now but hear me out.

Use this night to just enjoy each other’s company and gab into the late hours, like the old days before smartphones took over. Trust me, you won’t miss Instagram that much.

Play Tourist in Your City/Town

There’s no better way to get to know your city or town than by playing tourist. This makes for a fun and exciting time for those who aren’t homebodies. Treat yourself this weekend by picking out a few places you’ve never been before.

This could be a popular restaurant, an aquarium or even the local animal shelter. If you haven’t been there before, add it to the list. Most attractions, even museums, will offer specials for the locals. You can either get in for free or at a deep discount.

But it doesn’t have to stop there. Take the time to plan out a romantic picnic at the local park with your significant other. Or, grab a friend and go out for brunch at the latest hotspot.  There’s no way you can waste your day exploring the place you live. Even if you decide to go outside of county lines.

Living so close to California, my family and I take a little road trip every now and then to Shoshone. It’s a small town but with the coolest general store and museum.  Now’s the time to get up, get out, and see the sights!
