5 Ways to Get to Know Yourself Better

5 Ways to Get to Know Yourself Better

Self-awareness is super important. When you’re self-aware, you know who you want in your life, what you want to do with your life, and it helps you find true happiness.

The more you know yourself, the more you’re able to deal with adversity and move further toward your goals and dreams.

If you’re struggling to truly figure out who you are or you just want to get to know yourself better, here are 5 things that you can try!

1. Take a Personality Test

Personality tests can go a long way toward helping us get a better idea of our personality traits, the way our brains are wired, how our relationships work, what our strengths and weaknesses are, and so much more. There are quite a few personality tests out there, but here are a few of the more popular ones:

2. Figure Out Your Personal Style

I believe that our personal style gives some indication of who we are. Our style is the first impression of ourselves that we show the world. It’s a reflection of how we express ourselves. When we figure out our personal style, we give ourselves a chance to feel confident and beautiful in our own unique way. So, go through your wardrobe and get rid of anything that you feel doesn’t accurately reflect how you feel inside. Then seek out inspiration on Pinterest or in magazines, and try to find a style that shows off who you are.

3. Ask Yourself Thoughtful Questions

Having a real conversation with yourself is a great way to learn new things that you may not have known before. The best way to do this is to ask yourself questions that really make you think. Ask yourself questions like:

  • What are my short-term goals? Long-term goals?
  • Who’s my biggest role model and why?
  • What or who makes me feel safe and comforted?
  • What is my proudest accomplishment?
  • What are my core values?

Here’s a list of 52 questions for self-discovery.

4. Use a Journal

Journals might be the most helpful tool for getting to know yourself. There’s so much that you can do with them. You can use journal prompts for self-discovery, like the ones above. You can make lists of things that you love, things that you want to do, the things you’re proud of accomplishing, or any other lists you can think of. You can write about your opinions on important topics and how you formed those opinions, you can keep track of how you spend your time. You can also free-write about anything that’s on your mind. There are so many options!

5. Talk To The People Closest To You

Sometimes, the people around us can form a fuller picture of who we are than we can. Things about ourselves that seem obvious to them can be things that we don’t notice at all. So, ask them for feedback about what they think you’re really good at and what they think your weaknesses are. Ask what they think your personality traits are and see if you can get a fresh perspective.
